UG Orders Students With CGPA Below 1.00 to Withdraw

The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.

In a notice published on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for academic progression.

Under the regulation, students are required to attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to progress to the next level.

The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation. As a result, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released will be required to withdraw.

Affected students have been advised to check their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate the withdrawal process through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).

According to the Directorate, students must log in to the STS portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their student identification numbers and PINs, then select “Withdrawal Request” to begin the process.

The university noted, however, that some schools or departments may initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students who require clarification regarding their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been urged to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university added that its Careers and Counselling Directorate is available to offer support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
