Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters has been promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector for his bravery and swift action during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
The promotion was approved by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following a recommendation recognising Inspector Atubra’s efforts to save lives during the emergency.
The fire broke out on Wednesday, August 26, at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, where several shops were engulfed in flames, causing extensive damage to property.
Inspector Atubra was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene.
Despite the intensity of the fire and the danger posed to those in the area, he immediately moved in to assist people trapped within the affected zone.
He helped evacuate victims from the danger area and guided them to safety as the fire spread.
His quick intervention is credited with helping to prevent further loss of life, as he prioritised the evacuation of people caught in the unfolding emergency.
Witnesses at the scene reportedly praised the officer for his courage, prompt response and commitment to protecting lives.
His conduct subsequently led to a recommendation for his promotion as recognition of what was described as an exemplary display of bravery and professionalism.
The IGP approved the recommendation, elevating Inspector Atubra to Chief Inspector.
The Aboso fire, however, left several shops damaged and resulted in significant losses to property.
