A grieving husband has accused the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, of negligence and unprofessional conduct following the death of his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, after a scheduled Caesarean section.
Daniel Ofori Asante made the allegations in a Facebook post on Friday, August 28, 2026, as he prepared to bury his wife, whom he said died just 19 months into their marriage.
According to Asante, Theresa went to Ridge Hospital for an elective Caesarean section but died in what he described as a “preventable tragedy.”
“Theresa’s only fault was being pregnant and placing her trust in Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) for a scheduled, elective Caesarean section,” he wrote.
He alleged that failures within the healthcare system and decisions by medical personnel contributed to his wife’s death, although he did not provide specific details about the medical circumstances surrounding the incident.
“She is gone because our porous healthcare system and the very medical personnel trusted to protect her failed her when she needed them most,” he said.
Asante described the loss as devastating to the family, particularly their newborn son, who he said had been deprived of the opportunity to grow up with his mother.
“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” he wrote.
He also recounted the emotional toll of Theresa’s death on her parents, saying her father had to return to Ghana earlier than planned after receiving news of her passing.
“Picking my father in law up from the airport last 2 weeks was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life,” he said.
The grieving husband said family members, friends, colleagues at the Ministry of Health and members of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Covenant Temple were struggling to come to terms with the loss.
He described Theresa as “a gentle, peaceful, and unproblematic soul” and alleged that “reckless decisions” at Ridge Hospital contributed to the shortening of her life.
Asante further accused unnamed individuals of “unprofessionalism, manipulation, and extortion” but did not identify the individuals involved or provide evidence to substantiate those claims.
He said he would pursue the matter after his wife’s funeral and promised to make what he described as the “full truth” public.
“After I honor my wife today Friday 28th August, 2026, the full truth will be told,” he wrote.
Although he acknowledged that an investigation or public disclosure would not bring his wife back, Asante said he was determined to seek answers to prevent other pregnant women and families from suffering a similar experience.
“Will this bring back this life of my wife? Absolutely no but so that no other pregnant woman or family has to endure this living nightmare,” he said.
He ended his post with an emotional tribute to Theresa, describing her as his best friend, soulmate and the love of his life, and pledged that the family would remain strong for their son.
Theresa Boakye Dua was laid to rest on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The allegations made by her husband have not been independently verified. Ridge Hospital and the Ghana Health Service had not, at the time of publication, publicly responded to the allegations.
