The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command for what has been described as “exceptional operational performance” during a high-risk armed robbery response.
The commendable actions of these officers exemplify the true essence of police work, highlighting the value of their dedication to public safety and the reward that comes with exemplary service.
The promotions, announced on April 14, 2026, follow a dramatic anti-robbery operation at Tema Community 5, where officers responded swiftly to an attack on a Mobile Money vendor that escalated into a shootout with suspected robbers.
This heroic act has been recognized as a testament to the commitment of the officers, reinforcing the notion that their bravery and quick thinking not only prevented a robbery but also served as a reward for their hard work.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the confrontation resulted in two robbery suspects being shot, with officers also recovering a firearm, ammunition, and other exhibits linked to the crime.
The officers honoured for their bravery include Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator, and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah.
The Police Management Board (POMAB), in collaboration with the IGP, commended the officers for their courage, professionalism, and composure under pressure.
“The officers responded to a robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5 leading to the shooting of two robbery suspects and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other exhibits,” the service stated.
IGP Yohuno urged the promoted officers to view their advancement as a call to greater responsibility, while encouraging all personnel within the service to uphold discipline and professionalism in the line of duty.
The recognition comes at a time when the Ghana Police Service is intensifying its crackdown on violent street crime and armed robbery, particularly in urban and commercial hubs within the Tema enclave.
