Interior Ministry Suspends Kantanka Security Services’ Operating Licence

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following reports of alleged regulatory breaches involving the company’s personnel.

According to a statement issued by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on June 22, 2026, the decision follows reports that security personnel of the company allegedly used unprescribed uniforms and possessed and used firearms and ammunition while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.

The Ministry said preliminary investigations pointed to possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.

It stressed that the use of unapproved uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as other security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitute serious breaches with significant implications for public safety and security.

As part of the sanctions, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to immediately cease all operations pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter.

The Ministry has also advised all institutions and organisations to refrain from conducting business with the company until further notice and the completion of investigations.

Additionally, the company has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all relevant information to facilitate a thorough probe.

The Ministry described the suspension as an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety while investigations continue, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry and in accordance with Ghana’s laws governing private security operations.

The public has also been encouraged to report any unlawful activities involving private security organisations and their personnel to the nearest police station.

Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing regulatory compliance, the Ministry warned that it would not hesitate to take action against any private security organisation found to be operating in breach of the law.
