Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has rejected claims that there are videos of him engaging in conduct capable of damaging his reputation, family or the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Effutu MP said he was confident that no such material existed and challenged anyone with compromising footage of him to produce it.
“Nobody has any video of me doing anything to embarrass myself, my family and the party. No, there is nothing like that anywhere,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.
He made the remarks on Monday, August 31, 2026, when members of the Asafo Companies One and Two from Effutu paid a solidarity visit to him at his residence in Accra.
His comments come at a time when politicians are increasingly subjected to intense scrutiny and commentary on social media, particularly amid political and public disputes.
Mr Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that social media had fundamentally changed the nature of political engagement, saying public figures must be prepared for the heightened attention that comes with holding political office.
“It is a social media era, so as a politician I have to accept some of these things that will come my way,” he said.
The Minority Leader’s remarks follow a public dispute with GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, who has accused him of being an “extortionist” and alleged that he was attempting to pressure the state-owned gold trading company.
Mr Afenyo-Markin has strongly rejected the allegations and has taken legal action against Mr Gyamfi and three others over statements he considers defamatory.
Despite the controversy, the Minority Leader maintained that social media scrutiny is now an unavoidable part of political life, while insisting that there is no compromising video of him capable of bringing his name, family or party into disrepute.
