Ministry Orders Reversal of GDCL Staff Suspension Directive

Ministry Orders Reversal of GDCL Staff Suspension Directive

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has directed the Management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse its decision to temporarily suspend the employment contracts of all staff.

In a statement dated Tuesday, July 1, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of a circular issued by GDCL announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts for all staff, pending what the company described as a comprehensive assessment. The suspension was expected to take effect from July 1.

However, the Ministry rejected the directive and instructed GDCL Management to withdraw it without delay.

“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and IMMEDIATELY instructs Management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry, the decision comes at a time when many staff members have already been personally affected by the devastating floods of June 29.

“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29th floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our Agencies,” it added.

The Ministry further disclosed that the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited has been invited to a meeting on Wednesday, July 2, 2026, to discuss the matter.

The meeting follows a visit by the Minister to the Centre on Tuesday, June 30, where he assessed the extent of damage caused by the floods to the facility and businesses operating from the premises.

The Ministry has not yet provided details on the outcome it expects from the meeting but has made it clear that the suspension directive should not be enforced.
