How MTN Slashed Fibre Broadband Prices Following Sam George's Engagements

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced a major reduction in fibre broadband prices following engagements between the government and MTN Ghana aimed at making internet services more affordable for consumers.

In a social media post on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the minister revealed that discussions with MTN Ghana had resulted in substantial cuts to the telecommunications company’s unlimited fibre broadband packages.

According to Mr George, customers who previously paid GH¢987 for a one-month unlimited 100 Mbps fibre broadband package will now pay GH¢299 — a reduction of nearly 70 percent.

“Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed,” the minister wrote.

Under the revised pricing structure, customers can also subscribe to a 300 Mbps unlimited broadband package for GH¢444 per month, while a 500 Mbps unlimited package will cost GH¢999 monthly.

Mr George said the reductions were a direct response to growing public demand for affordable, stable and reliable broadband services across the country.

“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” he stated.

The minister commended the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding positively to concerns raised by consumers and government regarding the cost of internet services.

“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.

He assured Ghanaians that the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations would continue engaging telecommunications operators to secure better service offerings and improve digital accessibility.

“From the Ministry, we will continue to push for better service packages for the Ghanaian people,” Mr George noted.

The reduction in fibre broadband prices is expected to bring relief to households, businesses, content creators, students and remote workers who rely on high-speed internet connectivity for their daily activities.

Industry observers say the move could significantly boost broadband adoption and digital inclusion as demand for fast and reliable internet services continues to grow across Ghana.
