A person has died following a road traffic collision involving a KIA Rhino truck and a saloon car at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident involved a Zedrive saloon car with registration number GW 6334-26 and a KIA Rhino truck with registration number GE 1120-15.

The GNFS said it received a distress call at 1:16 a.m. and immediately dispatched a rescue team from its headquarters to the scene. The team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Yussif Yakubu, arrived shortly after and found the driver of the saloon car trapped in the wreckage.

A medical assessment conducted at the scene confirmed the driver had died.

Firefighters carried out an extrication operation to remove the body from the damaged vehicle. The operation involved cutting away sections of the car, including the door and steering wheel, and was completed at approximately 2:14 a.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that the saloon car collided with the rear of a stationary KIA Rhino truck that had reportedly developed a fault and was parked on the roadway. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The GNFS has reminded motorists to place reflective warning triangles or other approved warning devices around vehicles that break down on the road in order to alert other road users, particularly during nighttime hours.
