The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has firmly denied reports suggesting that it is considering the sale of its newly constructed headquarters, describing the claims as “false and misleading.”
In a press release issued on June 2, 2026, the central bank responded to a publication by MyJoyOnline dated June 1, 2026, which was titled “Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources.”
According to the Bank, there are no discussions, considerations, or plans underway to dispose of the new facility.
“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading,” the statement said.
The central bank further emphasized that the headquarters remains a vital asset that supports its operations and enhances efficiency in carrying out its statutory mandate.
“The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters. The facility, which was commissioned to support the Bank’s operations and enhance efficiency in the discharge of its statutory mandate, remains a critical asset of the Bank.”
The Bank also urged the public and media organizations to disregard the publication, warning that unverified reports could undermine confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary uncertainty in the market.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty.”
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the Bank noted that all official communication regarding its operations is disseminated through its official website, verified social media platforms, press statements from its Communications Department, and signed statements from the Secretary of the Bank.
“The Bank of Ghana remains committed to transparency and will continue to engage stakeholders through its official channels.”
The Bank also encouraged media houses to seek clarification directly from the institution before publishing reports relating to its activities.
“The media is encouraged to seek clarification from the Bank before publishing information relating to its operations.”
The statement was issued by the Communications Department of the Bank of Ghana and dated June 2, 2026.
