15 Killed, 25 Rescued in Crash on Peki–Tsame Road

At least 15 people have been confirmed dead following a devastating road crash on the Peki–Tsame road in the Volta Region.

The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, involving two commercial vehicles carrying a combined total of 40 passengers. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at various health facilities.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the scene and rescued 25 survivors trapped in the mangled vehicles. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the morgue.

Speaking to Citi News, Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO1 Hope Bedzrah, said preliminary investigations indicate that the tragedy resulted from a head-on collision.

“When they got there, they realised that the two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision. Preliminary investigations at the scene suggest that there were 40 occupants in the two vehicles,” he said.

Emergency responders immediately launched rescue operations upon arrival, helping to save passengers trapped in the wreckage.
