Two police officers attached to the Ofoase Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region have died following a tragic road accident at Ofoase-Ayirebi.
The deceased officers have been identified as Lance Corporal Isaac Anti and Constable Allonyor Thomas.
Reports indicate that the two were riding a motorcycle when it crashed into a stationary tricycle, popularly known as an “aboboyaa.”
Sources say the officers were off duty at the time and were travelling from Ofoase to Ayirebi to purchase food when the incident occurred.
Lance Corporal Anti died instantly at the scene due to the impact of the crash. Constable Thomas, who sustained severe injuries and was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the Brenase Health Centre for treatment but was later pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the facility.
Sources further revealed that the owner of the tricycle fled the scene after discovering that the victims were police officers, reportedly fearing a possible attack from members of the community.
Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The bodies of the deceased officers have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy and preservation.
