Persons attending World Cup should apply for VISA early - Canadian High Commissioner

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, is urging Ghanaian football fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup to submit their visa applications as early as possible.

According to her, early applications will help avoid delays, reduce pressure on processing centres, and protect applicants from falling victim to scammers promising guaranteed approvals.

Speaking to presenters during an engagement ahead of the global tournament, she noted that Canada, who is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico, is already coordinating with partner countries to ensure a smooth process for travellers.

“We are working very closely with our colleagues in the U.S. and Mexico just to ensure that we have some cohesion and coherence in the way in which we approach the World Cup.”

Myriam Montrat also issued a strong warning against using third-party agents or so-called visa facilitators, describing them as common sources of fraud targeting eager travellers.

“My advice would be for people that are interested in attending the World Cup to ensure that they are putting in their visa application as early as possible. The best way is to go directly to the source to avoid scammers.”

She added that the expected surge in travel demand makes early submission crucial for anyone hoping to secure entry.

“Our objective is to ensure that the project is as smooth as possible. We are anticipating that there would be lots of demands hence my recommendation to actually put in an application as soon as possible.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 participating nations.
