The Minority in Parliament is calling for the removal of Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor from his position as the Majority Chief Whip, citing concerns over his alleged disruptive behavior and lack of diplomacy in managing parliamentary affairs.
At a press conference on Friday, January 31, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin strongly criticized Dafeamekpor’s leadership style, labeling him a bully and accusing him of undermining the authority of Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee.
Afenyo-Markin stated that Dafeamekpor’s actions have created significant tension within the Parliamentary Chamber, negatively impacting proceedings and disrupting cohesion within the Majority caucus.
He further urged President John Mahama and his administration to reconsider their decision to appoint Dafeamekpor as Majority Chief Whip.
“To my respected friend Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, if he thinks that he is still in opposition and he would be a bully, then he will meet his meter. Dafeamekpor has gained notoriety for shouting, yelling, undermining his own chairman, interrupting proceedings, and even challenging his own Majority Leader—yet he describes himself as the avant-garde of the government.
“Is he the first Majority Chief Whip? The role requires being a key negotiator and a diplomat in the Chamber. If he did so successfully in opposition, now he is in government. So, President Mahama and his government may have to rethink their choice of Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor as their Majority Chief Whip,” Afenyo-Markin remarked.
