Parliament of Ghana has confirmed the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Parliament said the matter had come to the attention of the House and that the legislator is currently being held by authorities in the Netherlands.
According to the statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House are in contact with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to gather detailed information regarding the incident. Parliament, however, did not disclose the reasons behind the MP’s detention.
The statement further assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations and engagements with Dutch authorities continue.
