Mahama Nominates Three for Supreme Court

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Supreme Court.

The nominees are Court of Appeal Justices Sophia Bernasko-Essah and Amoako Asante, together with legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Tony Forson.

Justice Amoako Asante previously served as President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice before returning to the Court of Appeal in Ghana.

The nominations were made in consultation with the Judicial Council, as required by the Constitution.

If approved by Parliament, the appointments will increase the number of Supreme Court judges from 18 to 21.

The nominees are expected to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting before a final approval decision is taken.
