Ghana Ready to Dominate Africa’s AI Space – Sam George

Ghana has taken a decisive step toward becoming Africa’s leading hub for artificial intelligence, as Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, officially launched the country’s National AI Strategy on Friday, April 24.

The initiative introduces a comprehensive framework designed to guide the development, deployment, and regulation of AI systems across critical sectors of the economy. It aims to accelerate innovation while upholding ethical standards, safeguarding data, and ensuring inclusive access to emerging technologies.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister underscored the importance of collaboration among government institutions, private sector players, academia, and citizens in driving Ghana’s AI agenda forward.

He noted that artificial intelligence is no longer a distant concept but an active force reshaping industries such as healthcare, education, agriculture, finance, and governance.

“I trust that the judiciary will guide our ethical and legal application of artificial intelligence. Ghana stands capable and ready to lead Africa as an AI hub by strengthening collaboration between government, industry, academia, and citizens. We will build a Ghana that owns its future in the age of intelligence,” he said.

The strategy places strong emphasis on capacity building through STEM education, support for research institutions, and the growth of innovation hubs focused on developing local solutions tailored to Ghana’s needs.
