President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing development projects initiated during the reign of the late Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, pledging to work closely with the newly installed Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abukari.
Speaking at the Regent’s installation ceremony in Yendi on Friday, July 31, President Mahama said the government would partner with the Dagbon Traditional Council to ensure the late Overlord’s vision for the kingdom continues to be realised.
He described the installation of the new Regent as an important step in preserving stability and continuity in Dagbon and pledged his administration’s full support for the traditional leadership.
“My brothers and sisters, the installation of a new Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu, carries more than just symbolism. I pledge to Kampakuya Naa to work closely with you to fulfil the dream of your father and continue all the development projects that we started during your father’s reign,” the President said.
President Mahama also praised the Regent for committing to uphold the traditions and values of Dagbon, saying his inaugural address demonstrated a strong sense of duty and selflessness.
“I commend the Regent for his very uplifting speech this afternoon and his solemn pledge to uphold the time-tested traditions of Dagbon over and above his personal interest,” he added.
The President further urged the people of Dagbon to preserve the peace and unity that have characterised the kingdom in recent years, describing their calm and mature response to the passing of the late Ya-Na on July 11 as a testament to the resilience of the Dagbon Kingdom.
He noted that the late Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II left behind a legacy of reconciliation, stability and development, and encouraged the Regent to build on those achievements as he leads the kingdom through the transition period.
