The Accra High Court has granted bail to Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The ruling was delivered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, following a legal challenge mounted by Abronye DC’s lawyers against an earlier remand order issued by Circuit Court 9 in Accra.
The outspoken politician had been remanded into BNI custody over allegations of spreading false news, a move that sparked strong reactions from the opposition NPP and intensified political debate over the handling of the case.
His legal team argued before the High Court that his continued detention was unjustified and unnecessary, especially after he had previously been granted bail during ongoing investigations.
The case has drawn significant public attention, particularly after Abronye DC was rearrested shortly after securing earlier bail.
Ahead of the High Court decision, the NPP strongly criticised the judicial process surrounding the case, questioning the sudden transfer of the matter from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two.
The party described the development as “mind-boggling” and alleged that the move was aimed at frustrating efforts to secure bail for the Bono Regional Chairman.
NPP officials have also raised concerns about what they describe as growing political intimidation and pressure targeting opposition figures.
The latest ruling now paves the way for Abronye DC’s release once he satisfies the bail conditions, while legal proceedings in the case continue.
