We Hope Action Will Be Taken – Family Reacts to Charles Amissah Findings

The family of late engineer Charles Amissah has welcomed the findings of the investigative committee that examined the circumstances leading to his death, but insists that individuals found culpable must face disciplinary action.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, May 6, Dr Matilda Amissah, sister of the deceased, described the report as an important step toward accountability, despite the pain it has caused the family to relive.

“We are grieving; it will not bring Charles Amissah back, but we hope that disciplinary action will be taken by the various bodies,” she stated, adding that the family was satisfied with the committee’s recommendations.

Dr Amissah admitted the release of the “No Bed Syndrome” report had reopened emotional wounds, saying, “I am very sad. It reminds me of all that happened previously.”

She, however, praised the committee chaired by Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa for what she called a thorough and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding her brother’s death.

“The investigative committee has done excellent work. We appreciate the professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout the entire pursuit of the truth,” she said.

Dr Amissah also commended the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Ministry of Health for treating the matter with urgency and national importance.

The family’s reaction comes after the committee concluded that Charles Amissah’s death following a hit-and-run incident earlier this year could potentially have been prevented if timely medical care had been provided.
