Deputy Minority Whip wants Ablakwa Summoned Over Mahama Private Jet Use
The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called for the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to be summoned to Parliament to explain reports that former President John Mahama used a private jet linked to his brother for official travel.
This comes after Ablakwa had previously criticized former President Nana Akufo-Addo for using chartered luxury jets, sparking accusations of hypocrisy.
Speaking on the Business Statement in Parliament on Friday, March 13, 2026, Shaib urged the legislature to take a keen interest in the matter and summon Ablakwa to provide clarity on President Mahama’s usage of the private jet.
“It is important that Parliament, which has oversight responsibility over the public purse, ensures there is transparency and accountability in matters involving public expenditure and the usage of private assets for state functions,” he noted.
Shaib, who is also the NPP MP for Weija, wants Ablakwa to answer questions on whether the private jet belongs to Ibrahim Mahama and whether its usage by President Mahama for official duties was at no cost to the state.
He also drew the House’s attention to government assurances to construct airports across all regions in Ghana and demanded that Ablakwa provides answers to such pledges when summoned.
“As representatives of the people, it is important that we are well informed about such projects, particularly where they have implications for national development and public resources,” Shaib added.
