NPP was so reckless that proper spending looks like no spending to them - Ketu North MP

Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s expenditure, arguing that disciplined spending is being mistaken for inactivity by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, the government is prudently managing the country’s finances and directing funds to critical sectors rather than engaging in wasteful spending.

Speaking on TV3 as monitored by NewsDesksGH on March 2, he said,

“There is no reckless expend. We are spending but we are spending at the right places and spending on the right things.”

He added that criticism from the New Patriotic Party stems from their own actions in government.

“It’s a concern they have because they were so reckless, so indisciplined with expenditure such that expenditure today, useful expenditure and ensuring that we spend at the right place, it appears to them as not spending.”

The MP questioned what major sector they believe is being neglected.

“Which critical sector of the economy today would you say that we’re expected to fund and the funds are not going? Is it education?”

He touched on the previous administration’s handling of the Free Senior High School policy.

“Under their government, the most touted free SHS which they bragged about to the extent that if a citizen complains about bad roads, their solution was that we’re implementing free SHS. Even that program they couldn’t fund it.”

Edem Agbana maintained that the economy is currently in a stronger position than it was when the NDC took office in January 2025.

“I am confident that, looking at all the measures that we are implementing including the newly introduced value for money office, we’re even going to see much more prudence in the management of our resources than the reckless spending, reckless economic decisions that we saw under the 8 years of the NPP.”
