The Ghana Police Service, Cape Coast Division, has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School over the alleged assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College.
According to the police, the school authorities of Aggrey Memorial SHS handed over the six juvenile students to the Kotokuraba Police Station at about 7:30pm on February 20, 2026.
In a press statement issued on February 24, Police said the students were reported to have attacked and assaulted Rexford Owusu-Ansah, a final-year Adisadel College student, earlier that same day at about 3:30pm at Pedu Junction.
“On receipt of the complaint, the juvenile suspects were arrested and detained to assist with investigation.”
Initial police enquiries revealed that the incident occurred on the final day of the inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, February 20, 2026.
The victim was reportedly leaving the stadium to return to campus with two friends when students believed to be from Aggrey Memorial SHS approached them and asked whether they attended Adisadel College before launching the attack.
“His two other friends managed to escape but unfortunately he was caught, and was kicked onto the floor and beaten mercilessly, and they took his iPhone 17 pro max and his pocket money of about GH¢ 1,400 Cedis and his shoes.”
Police said the victim was first rushed to the stadium clinic and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital and was discharged on Sunday, February 22nd.
However, medical examination revealed serious injuries.
“The police medical form that was endorsed by a medical doctor showed a fractured nerve bone in his right eye and he cannot open it up, and the eyeball seems to be falling out.”
The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the assault and assured the public that the suspects will face the law.
“The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that due process will be followed as the juvenile offenders will face the full rigours of the law.”
The incident adds to a series of recent cases of student-on-student violence that have sparked public concern, with many questioning why such attacks are becoming increasingly frequent in Senior High Schools across the country.
