Former NEIP CEO Kofi Nkansah picked up by NIB over GH₵100k ‘cash for scholarship’ allegations

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has reportedly been picked up by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to assist with investigations into allegations of a “cash-for-scholarship” scheme.

Mr. Kofi Nkansah made these allegations during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM, where he claimed that an individual paid GH₵100,000 to secure an overseas scholarship under a government programme.

On February 3, a directive was issued by President John Dramani Mahama for a full-scale investigation into the claims that individuals were made to pay money in exchange for government-sponsored foreign scholarships.

The directive, issued on February 3, 2026, was communicated by Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, and described the allegations as a matter of “grave public concern.”

Mr. Nkansah arrived at the NIB offices accompanied by his lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, after receiving a formal invitation from the Bureau to provide evidence to support his claims.

Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, however revealed in a Facebook post that Mr. Nkansah was picked up by the NIB after failing to honour earlier invitations to assist with the investigation.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of sale of foreign scholarships. He is currently in the grips of the NIB after refusing their invitation,” he said.
