Newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he will not allow personal grievances to influence decisions as he leads the party into the 2028 general elections, pledging to work with anyone who can help secure victory.
According to him, his focus is solely on the collective interest of the party and not on individual sentiments or past disagreements.
Dr. Bawumia made the remarks while addressing party members on February 4, 2026, during post-victory engagements following his election as flagbearer.
“I want to assure everybody that my mind is very open, my heart is open, my arms are open. I believe that the key is to win. Whoever can help this art win, I’m going to help work with you,” he said.
He stressed that the mandate he has received is a party responsibility, not a personal one.
“The responsibility that has been placed on my shoulders is for the party. It’s not a personal matter. I’m pursuing the role for the party not for myself, so I cannot allow personal feelings to get into it,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Reiterating his commitment to unity, he said criticisms directed at him personally would not affect his leadership decisions.
“Whoever can help this party come to power, we’re going to assist you. So if it is something that you’ve said against me personally, that is not my issue,” he said.
“I will not make any decisions based on personal issues. That will not happen. I want us to win and I’m going to tell you that my whole focus, going from now, is to win 2028. I believe we are going to win 2028,” he added.
In the New Patriotic Party presidential primary held on January 31, 2026, Dr. Bawumia secured 56.48% of the total valid votes, polling 110,645 votes, to emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
