Late Ayawaso East MP Mc Naza’s wife to contest NDC parliamentary primaries

Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama, popularly known as Mc Naza, has officially declared her intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the vacant seat.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, Hajia Amina said her decision follows weeks of reflection, prayer, and consultations after the sudden passing of her husband earlier this month.

Describing the loss as the most difficult experience of her life, she noted that her late husband was not only a partner but a leader and role model to her and their children, who instilled in them values of humility, gratitude, and service to humanity.

“His passing has left a great void in my life, in the children, family members, the constituents, and in the hearts of many,” she stated, adding that she continues to draw strength from her faith and the teachings of the Qur’an.

According to her, the decision to enter the race was influenced by what she described as a “clarion call” from well-meaning constituents of Ayawaso East, urging her to offer herself to lead the constituency politically for the remaining two years and nine months of the parliamentary term.

Hajia Amina assured party supporters and the general public that all processes surrounding her candidature would strictly adhere to the guidelines of the NDC and the Electoral Commission, following the announcement of a by-election to fill the vacant seat.

She emphasised that her bid is aimed at continuing and improving upon the vision, good works, and selfless service rendered by her late husband during his time as Member of Parliament.

Touching on religious considerations, Hajia Amina disclosed that she is currently observing idda, a mandatory waiting period prescribed in Islam following the death of a spouse. She stressed that her political activities would be conducted in a manner that fully respects this sacred obligation and Islamic teachings.

Drawing inspiration from Ghana’s political history, she referenced Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s 1951 election victory while imprisoned, noting that her motivation to contest is rooted in service rather than personal ambition.

“As a mother, my only motivation to contest is to serve my people and to help transform their lives,” she said.

She concluded her statement by expressing humility, faith, and a strong sense of duty, while praying for divine guidance and strength as she embarks on the journey.
