Detention of Abu Trica’s baby mother is unacceptable – Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Abu Trica baby mother detained

Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has condemned the reported detention of the partner and mother of the child of Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, describing the action as unacceptable and unlawful.

According to him, the woman is not named in the extradition request against Abu Trica and should therefore not be subjected to detention.

In a post on X on the evening of Friday, December 12, Oliver Barker-Vormawor criticised the conduct of the security agencies and alleged that the move was intended to pressure the suspect.

“Security operatives have detained the partner and mother of Abu Trica’s son. This is apparently to put pressure on him.
Even though the extradition request does not name her at all. Not acceptable!” he posted.

The activist and lawyer has also indicated his intention to defend Abu Trica in court to challenge the extradition process.

He argued that the former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, who has been on a Red Notice for several months and had a formal extradition request submitted for him, has still not returned to Ghana.

31-year-old Ghanaian social media personality Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on December 11, 2025, in a joint operation with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He is alleged to be a key figure in a sophisticated romance scam operation targeting elderly victims in the United States.

Abu Trica is accused of involvement in an estimated $8 million romance scam, which forms part of a broader network believed to have defrauded victims worldwide of over $100 million through email spoofing and romance fraud schemes.

EOCO has confirmed that he will be extradited to the United States to face criminal charges following an indictment by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Meanwhile, Abu Trica’s partner, known on social media as Queenie, reportedly deleted all photos and videos showing her together with him shortly after his arrest and subsequently locked her social media accounts to prevent public access.

The move sparked widespread debate, with many users interpreting her actions as an attempt to quickly distance herself from him and the legal troubles surrounding the case.
