Court Dismisses Akosua Serwaa’s claim as Daddy Lumba’s sole lawful wife

The High Court 5, General Jurisdiction, in Kumasi, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur (PhD), has dismissed claims by Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late legendary musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, that she was married to him under civil law and is therefore his only lawful spouse.

Delivering judgment before a packed courtroom, Justice Smith Arthur ruled that Akosua Serwaa failed to prove the existence of any civil marriage between herself and the deceased. The Court held that no civil marriage existed between the two.

According to the detailed 74-page judgment, what existed between Akosua Serwaa and Daddy Lumba was solely a customary marriage. Consequently, the Court determined that she cannot be considered the sole surviving spouse of the late musician.

Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni) Also a Wife
The Court’s decision further implies that Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni  is acknowledged as a wife of Daddy Lumba, and also legally recognized as a spouse and entitled to all rights due a widow under the law.

The Court announced that certified copies of the judgment will be available on December 1, 2025.
