The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the suspended 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise in the Greater Accra Region will resume on November 20, with revised security and administrative measures following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The screening was halted after six female applicants unfortunately died in a stampede last week, November 12.
The resumption and new procedures were communicated in a statement issued on November 17 and signed by Acting Director General of Public Relations Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy.
According to the statement, the exercise will now be decentralised across multiple locations to prevent overcrowding.
“As part of measures to ensure a seamless process, the screening will be done at 8 sub-centres within the following 5 locations:
(1) El-Wak Stadium – 2 Centres.
(2) Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 Centres.
(3) Air Force Base, Burma Camp.
(4) Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 Centres.
(5) Eastern Naval Command, Tema.”
They added that applicants will be screened in groups and will be notified of their details individually.
“All qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons, will each receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres.”
Candidates are also being encouraged to monitor the recruitment portal for updates.
Those who do not receive a message by November 20 are advised to contact the helplines provided.
“Any qualified applicant who does not receive a text message by Thursday 20 November 2025, should call the helpline on Mobile Number 0256405104 or WhatsApp on 0256405154 for assistance.”
To reduce congestion and prevent an uncontrollable crowd, the public has been cautioned against accompanying candidates.
“Families and friends are cautioned not to accompany potential recruits to the screening centres to reduce congestion. Non-applicants will not be allowed entry to any of the centres.”
“Applicants are strongly advised to strictly adhere to these instructions,” the statement stressed.
The Armed Forces also confirmed that a Board of Inquiry investigating the stampede is ongoing and noted that the recruitment team for the region has been fully replaced to allow for impartial work.
The new officers that have since taken charge are Commodore F.A. Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko and Colonel G. B. Eduah as Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower and Director Information Technology respectively.
The GAF assured that anyone found responsible will face sanctions.
They further expressed condolences to affected families and outlined support for injured victims.
“A special recruitment package will be offered to all injured after full recovery and also to the bereaved families.”
