The NPP is dead – Tamale North MP

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in crisis.

According to the MP, the party has failed to take the necessary steps to recover from its internal disarray.

Speaking on TV3 on October 4, the MP claimed the party is now dead, and needs to be revived.

“As for the NPP, currently any dear minded observer will tell you that the party is dead,” he said.

“They need to resuscitate the party. They need to re-organize the party, which they’re not doing unfortunately.”

His comments come during of the NPP’s upcoming flagbearership elections debates.

He questioned the party’s decision to push forward with leadership plans without first addressing what he described as poor foundation.

“They say they want to roof a building that doesn’t have a strong foundation,” he said.

Alhassan Suhuyini expressed genuine concern about the absence of a strong opposition.

“I will want to have an opposition that can keep my government on its toes,” he stated.

He further said that even NPP members can no longer deny the extent of the party’s problems.

“Any fair-minded person, even NPP person I mean, would admit that their party is dead. It’s in crisis.”

He cited some recent events within the party.

“I mean if you have the general secretary referring regional secretaries to disciplinary committee, it should just tell you.”

“These are telling moments.”
