We call for dismissal of Sam George – Minority Caucus

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George

This follows the recent announcement by Sam George on the DSTv pricing and channel upgrade.

According to them, the minister lacks the “temperament and emotional intelligence” for the role.

At a media briefing on October 2, the caucus said the minister’s conduct was “populist and disingenuous”.

The Minority recalled that since August 2025, the minister had been advocating a 30% cut in subscription fees, pointing to disparities between Ghana and other African countries like Nigeria.

They noted that he later constituted and chaired a committee to engage MultiChoice, but the outcome announced on September 29 was not the reduction he had promised.

Instead, they said the minister abandoned his firm stance and attempted to repackage an existing promotional offer as a policy breakthrough.

“His failure to grasp key issues during meetings and communicate the actual negotiated outcomes to Ghanaians, or a deliberate fabrication of what he was never able to broker, is evident,” they stated.

The caucus also said that MultiChoice itself had contradicted the minister’s claims.

“Firstly, MultiChoice publicly challenged him for inaccurately claiming that there had been an agreed reduction in prices; they issued a press release denying this assertion. Just yesterday, MultiChoice released a new statement clarifying that the ‘breakthrough’ the minister announced during his press conference as a result of his effective negotiations is merely their ongoing promotional offers.”

“This impasse reflects the minister’s lack of mental rigour in understanding and conducting negotiations,” they said.

The Minority went further to say,

“It also demonstrated that the minister lacks the temperament and emotional intelligence for that critical role. He has demonstrated the same by his numerous public utterances, insults to citizens and industry players during the process.”

The continued, “His actions also signal a breach of the President’s code of conduct that requires candour and respect to all persons.”

The caucus then said the deemed Sam George unfit to maintain his position as minister.

“We deem him unfit to continue as the Minister for the Strategic Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, and therefore call on him to resign or for the President to fire him.”

They further demanded that he render an unqualified apology for “wasting Ghanaians’ time” and account for fines levied on MultiChoice.
