Ghanaians call on OSP following alleged sighting of former Finance Minister

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who has been declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), is once again at the centre of public debate after an image surfaced online appearing to show him walking in the streets of the United States.

The photo which is circulating on social media, has triggered demands from Ghanaians for the OSP to provide answers on his whereabouts and explain the status of its pursuit.

Users have tagged the OSP in their posts, urging the office to act.

Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted by the OSP on charges related to alleged corruption and financial misconduct during his tenure as Finance Minister.

The investigations into the former minister cover several high-profile cases, including;

(1) SML revenue assurance contract – Alleged irregularities in the deal between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

(2) National Cathedral project – procurement and funding concerns surrounding the unfinished project.

(3) Ambulance contract – questions over a Ministry of Health deal with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the purchase and servicing of 307 ambulances.

(4) ECG contract termination – issues linked to the cancellation of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

(5) Tax refund account – allegations regarding the management of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.

The OSP summoned Ofori-Atta for questioning in January 2025, however his lawyers said he was out of the country receiving medical treatment.

After missing a final deadline in June 2025, the OSP declared him a fugitive from justice and began the process for an Interpol Red Notice.

The latest image has revived calls for accountability, with many questioning why the OSP has not taken action to ensure he is brought back to face justice.
