Four Nigerians have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly breaking into homes at Baatsonaa in Accra and stealing valuables, including a piggy bank, popularly known as a “susu box.”
The accused persons; Moses Chinedu, 26, a carpenter; Ugochukwu Onyeka, 24, a trader; Obumneke Nnebuo, 26, unemployed; and Wisdom Ugochukwu, 26, a trader, are facing seven counts of conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage, and stealing.
They are alleged to have broken into the apartments of Leslie Nii Fio Mensah, a self-employed man, and Abraham Kwaku Frimpong, a freight forwarder, making away with valuables estimated at GH¢25,470, $2,200, and £2,500.
Items stolen included an HP laptop, a Samsung S6 Lite tablet, Samsung A32 and A33 mobile phones, two JBL Bluetooth speakers, two JBL headsets, a Rolex gold-coloured watch, and a susu box, among others.
When they appeared before the court, presided over by Susana Eduful, their pleas were not taken due to the absence of an Igbo interpreter. They were remanded into custody to reappear on October 6, 2025.
According to Sergeant Priscilla Avorgah, the complainants returned from work on September 18, 2025, to find their homes forcibly entered and their belongings stolen.
Investigations revealed that the accused persons scaled a low fence wall and broke into the apartments, damaging the doors in the process.
The following day, one of the stolen tablets was tracked to Millicent Hotel in Baatsonaa, where police found the accused persons lodging. A search of their rooms uncovered all the stolen items, leading to their arrest.
The prosecution said investigations further showed that the accused had entered the country with the intention of breaking into homes to steal, adding that the complainants’ house was the third they had targeted.
