Ghanaians across the country have joined in mourning the eight fallen heroes being laid to rest at a solemn state funeral at the Black Star Square, offering prayers and words of comfort.

As the ceremony unfolds, social media is awash with messages of condolences, sympathy and solidarity.

One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “These tributes, oh God, hold up their families from this sudden loss, this is so sad and heartbreaking. May souls of our fallen heroes, rest in your bosom. Amen! #GhanaMourns.”

Another posted: “Watching the families of our fallen heroes is deeply painful. May God comfort and uphold them. #GhanaMourns #heroes #rip.”

“These are truly difficult moments. #GhanaMourns,” read another post.

The atmosphere in the Black Star Square was solemn as family members of the deceased gave their tributes, sharing personal recollections of their loved ones.

“More often than not, he put others before himself,” shared the Wife of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The children of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah read, “We will carry forward your values, live with your compassion, and let your light shine through us.”

The Wife of Alhaji Muniru Lumina also said, “You touched lives in ways that cannot be counted, and your absence will leave a space that no one can fill.”

“Your presence represented hope, your words bred love, and your work produced joy and happiness,” said the wife of Dr. Sarpong.

Wife of Samuel Aboagye also said“I witnessed your growth, your patience, your wisdom, your expanding capacity to love,”

The Wife of Squadron Leader Peter Anala also shared a very touching tribute, sharing her late husbands dedication to Ghana.

“For your dedication to your work, you had to make the most difficult sacrifice, to go and serve our country, leaving behind a sick new baby and a new mother who was still healing.” she said.

The wife of Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu also said, “You were considerate, attentive, giving, fun and loving, a quiet source of strength to me and indeed everyone who encountered you.”

According to the wife of Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, her late husband’s devotion to his work was like that of a proud parents.

“The Z9 was like your first child and in every conversation, you’d find a way to bring it up. You would spend long nights reading and researching to care for it,” she said.

The eight men namely, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Lumina, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah lost their lives in a tragic military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom on Wednesday August 6.

The state funeral, attended by the President, Vice President, families and loved ones, political leaders, and well wishers is ongoing at the Black Star Square this morning, Friday August 15.
