Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has expressed concern over the growing trend of politicians prioritizing politics over mourning deceased Members of Parliament.
According to him, once an MP dies, the focus shifts to who will replace them, rather than paying respects to the deceased.
Speaking in parliament following the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Akwatia MP, who passed away on July 7, 2025, he said “Nobody cares about the dead, they are looking at who is going to replace the dead,” he said.
In a statement, Bagbin warned that if he were to pass away, anyone attending his funeral wearing a T-shirt of another person would not be allowed to leave.
“In the unlikely event that I’m no more as Speaker of Parliament, anyone who comes to the funeral with the T-shirt of another person will not go back.”
