Member of Parliament for the Assin South Constituency in the Central Region, John Ntim Fordjour has described the government’s decision to suspend the implementation of the GH₵1 levy on every litre of petrol and diesel, originally scheduled to take effect on Monday, June 16, 2025.
“The implementation date for the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), which would have taken effect from Monday, 16th of June 2025, has been postponed after consultations with stakeholders. A new effective date will be communicated in due course,” Spokesperson and Head of Communications for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Richmond Rockson announced.
Reacting to this statement, Ntim Fordjour labelled the government as incompetent for failing to implement the levy after fighting in Parliament to pass it in the middle of the night while the country was sleeping.
“The nuisance Dumsor Levy has backfired! Suspending it after passing it at midnight while Ghana slept, speaks volumes of their incompetence.”
“Now they fear that Israel-Iran feud can devastate our economy. Was Russia-Ukraine conflict any different? Mahama and NDC hypocrisy exposed!” he said.
