Burkina Faso names a street in Ouagadougou after late JJ Rawlings

Burkina Faso has named a street in the country’s capital Ouagadougou after former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings.

The move is part of efforts by the current leadership of Burkina Faso to renew the streets in the country after African leaders who fought for the liberalization of Africa.

The event was graced by Yaa Asantsewaa and Kimathi Rawlings who reflected on their father’s legacy, the legacy of Thomas Sankara, and the urgent need for African unity.

“Now more than ever, we have the opportunity to come together as a continent. I feel the atmosphere is perfect for that kind of unity,” said Kimathi Rawlings, son of former President J.J. Rawlings.

He also spoke about the relationship his father had with Burkina Faso’s former leader, Captain Thomas Sankara.

“President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, my father, was a huge supporter of the foundation and he was a very close friend of Thomas Sankara.”
