President Mahama suspends Chief Justice on grounds of personal dislike – Ntim Fordjour

Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency, Rev Ntim Fordjour has claimed that president John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is based solely on personal dislike.

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo after setting up a committee to probe into allegations against her.

Reacting to the decision taken by the president, Rev Ntim Fordjour stated that “all the reasons cited as basis for prima facie for the suspension of Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo are farfetched.”

He added that the action taken by the president will set a dangerous precedence for Ghana’s democracy because it is the country that will suffer from this decision in the long run.

“The independence of the Judiciary is paramount to the integrity of our democratic pursuit. Your palpable pursuit of removing the Chief Justice and to replace her with a politically-compliant one, clearly affronts key principles of good governance and dangerous for the future Ghana’s democracy.”
