Head coach of the Ghana U-21 national hockey team, Richmond Attipoe has revealed that the team has withdrawn from the upcoming AFCON tournament because of lack of resources.
According to him, the team despite qualifying for the tournament in Namibia to compete for a slot in the World Cup has withdrawn because management couldn’t raise money for them to participate.
Coach Attipoe told Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy Sports that they needed $150,000 to cover their accommodation, travel and other expenses for the tournament but they have been told that there is no money.
“We couldn’t raise the estimated $150,000 needed to cover accommodation, travel, and other expenses, so we had no choice but to pull out.”
He added that the players were disappointed after they were told that Ghana cannot compete because there is no money.
“The team is young and there is a future for them but they didn’t receive the news well after doing all the hard work only to be told that there is no money.”
