Minority Accuses John Mahama of Breaching Presidential Office Act Over Unconstitutional Appointments

The Minority in Parliament has accused President John Mahama of violating Section 4(1) of the Presidential Office Act, which mandates consultations with the Council of State for appointments to his office.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, January 22, Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah highlighted that the President had already made appointments, including a Cabinet Secretary, despite the Council of State not being constituted. Boamah called for the withdrawal of appointment letters, stating, “We believe the appointment of the Cabinet Secretary was not made in accordance with the constitution. Proper procedures must be followed.”

The Minority further criticized the appointment of an envoy to the Sahel region, arguing that Ghana, as an ECOWAS member, has no historical ties to Sahel states.
