The Ministry of Defence has announced that the Investigation Board looking into the tragic Z-9 military helicopter crash has officially commenced work today, August 25, 2025.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence today, the Board investigating the helicopter crash that claimed the life of 8 people is mandated to complete its work within 30 days.
The Ministry says the board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, and includes members drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)
The statement read, “The United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force. The Board may also invite other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the investigation.”
“It will be recalled that, on the day of the incident, 6th August 2025, a preliminary investigation team was constituted to gather all available evidence relating to the crash in support of the Board’s work. The preliminary investigation team is scheduled to submit its report to the Board today,” they added.
The crash which occured on August 6, 2025 in Adansi Akrofuom tragically claimed the lives of 8 key figures, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Mohammed Muniru, NDC Vice-Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
An interdenominational burial service for the deceased was held at the Black Star Square, followed by a burial at the military cemetery on Friday, August 15.
