Your president failed to fight galamsey but did not resign – Majority MP to Minority

The Majority in Parliament has strongly rejected calls from the Minority Caucus demanding the resignation of the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George.

The Minority’s call follows the minister’s handling of negotiations with MultiChoice, operators of DSTv in Ghana.

The Minority, during a press briefing on October 2, accused the minister of misleading the public about a supposed 30% reduction in DSTv subscription fees.

They further criticized what they called his “lack of temperament and emotional intelligence” and urged him to resign or be dismissed by the President.

However, Majority MP and member of the Parliamentary Communications Committee, Sulemana Adama, has come to the minister’s defense.

Speaking to the media on October 3, he described the Minority’s demand as unfounded.

“The call on honourable Sam George to resign is unfounded.”

He went on to draw comparisons with controversial moments under the previous NPP administration, arguing that calls for resignation are inconsistent and selective.

He cited examples of political and policy failures under the former government, which did not lead to similar demands for accountability.

“For the record, when your president put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey, he failed but he did not resign. A minister of state said he was not thinking right in procuring vaccines, he did not resign. The former minister for communication signed opaque deals, he never resigned. Nobody called for him to resign.”

He then went on to question, “How do you call a minister who has achieved such in just a little over 8 months to resign?”

He further called on citizens to support the minister and ignore Minority’s calls.

“We call on Ghanaians to disregard the call for the minister to resign and rally behind him.”
