Why Minority is Opposing the Approval of Armah-Kofi Buah

The Minority in Parliament has raised strong objections to the approval of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, following his refusal to retract or apologise for comments he made about former President Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025.

During his vetting, Armah-Kofi Buah acknowledged that his remarks—widely viewed as critical—were not meant to insult or offend the former President. He explained that the comments were simply a reflection of the political climate at the time. However, despite the backlash, the nominee declined to retract his statement or issue an apology, a stance that has drawn the ire of the Minority.

The opposition party argues that such comments, particularly in the sensitive context of the former President’s final address, are inappropriate and should not be dismissed lightly. They have expressed concerns about Armah-Kofi Buah’s judgment and ability to effectively carry out the duties of the Ministry given the situation.

Despite the Minority’s objections, the Appointments Committee has moved forward with a majority recommendation for his approval by the full House. This sets the stage for a tense debate in Parliament, with the Minority continuing to press for accountability, while the Majority pushes for confirmation.
