Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has warned communities that attack security personnel that they will face forceful responses.
According to him, injured security agents currently lie in hospital as a result of recent attacks.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new National Signals Bureau facility in the Eastern Region on October 8, he said that tolerance for such attacks was over and that the government would not allow perpetrators to get away.
“We are not anymore going to tolerate communities that attack our security personnel and our security facilities.”
The minister followed by signalling that the government’s democratic tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness, and that those who take security agencies for granted will be held to account.
“I send this signal and this announcement to all perpetrators who think, because of our democracy and our resolve to get our security agencies to do the right thing, you take them for granted.”
Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak then touched on recent incidents, saying security agents had gotten seriously injured while performing their duties.
“As we speak, we have more than 4 of our security agents who are lying in the hospital, between life and death. Simply because they’ve gone out to protect life and order,” he noted.
He warned that communities that attacked security personnel would face the full weight of the security forces. making clear that such attacks would no longer go unpunished.
“We will let the force of the forces come to pen on any community that think that they will attack our men and women and go scot free,” he warned.
He further stressed, “That will no longer be tolerated under this government.”
