We take responsibility for the search that happened at Former BoG governor’s house – Justice Srem-Sai

Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has firmly defended the recent raids on the homes of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, insisting that the operations were conducted lawfully and with proper authorization.

The raids, which have sparked widespread condemnation from the Minority as politically motivated, included a search of Dr. Addison’s residence on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and the earlier search of Ken Ofori-Atta’s home on February 11, 2025. On the same day as the Addison raid, journalist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was reportedly arrested and later released, further fueling public scrutiny.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Thursday, March 20, Srem-Sai took full responsibility for the operations, emphasizing that they were carried out in strict compliance with the law.

“We take responsibility for the search that happened. We want to make it clear that those searches and the manner in which they were conducted were in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and used,” he stated.

His remarks come amid escalating concerns over the conduct of security operations targeting former government officials, with critics accusing the government of using state apparatus to intimidate political opponents. The Minority has vehemently condemned the actions, labeling them as an abuse of power and an assault on democratic principles.
