Dr. Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, Convenor of the Media Coalition against Galamsey has called for a militarized response to the rapid growth of illegal mining in Ghana’s forest reserves.
According to Dr. Ken Ashigbey, the only way the government of Ghana can win the war against galamsey is to arm the forest guards because the people doing the illegal mining are armed to the tooth.
“In order to win the galamsey fight, we need to arm our forest guards and deploy a huge military and navy contingent to the forest reserves to fight these illegal miners,” he said on TV3.
Dr. Ken Ashigbey criticized the military for their inaction and stressed on the need for a state of emergency to combat the galamsey menace.
“We need to hold those who allowed the Abrewa NE nkran illegality to happen including the military and Police Commanders who sat and watched on without doing anything. We need a state of emergency.
