We don’t need deputy ambassadors, it’s mismanagement – PNP Leader

The Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, says it is unnecessary for Ghana to have deputy ambassadors, describing the move as a misuse of national resources.

According to her, such appointments are part of the reason the government struggles to pay essential workers, including teachers, nurses, and doctors.

President John Dramani Mahama recently appointed 18 individuals as deputy heads of mission (deputy ambassadors and deputy high commissioners) to various countries.

The appointments, announced in a letter from the Presidency, assign diplomatic officers to missions across multiple countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

However, speaking on Joy Prime on October 11, Janet Nabla shared her disagreements with such appointments.

“Do you know that President Mahama is appointing deputy ambassadors? What do we need deputy ambassadors for?” she questioned.

She further accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of poor financial management.

“They are mismanaging our resources, the NDC. The reason why these people are not paid is as a result of mismanagement.”

Nabla also criticized the two main political parties for what she described as wasteful governance.

“The two of them, NPP and NDC, I don’t know what we will do. If I were to have power, I would put them in one car and send them to a no man’s land,” she expressed.

She maintained that the ongoing demands and protests by key public sector workers over salary delays stem from the government’s misplaced priorities.

“All that we are now saying, it’s because of mismanagement,” she stressed.
