Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo has come to the defence of the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to her, New Patriotic Party (NPP) did many things wrong which led to their defeat in the 2024 election.
Speaking at a meeting of all New Patriotic Party (NPP) on December 14, she argued that the wrongdoing of the party should not be pinned on the former Vice President.
“Was Dr. Bawumia the finance minister? Were we not in this country when our MPs said our finances are not going well so should let our finance minister go and sit down, did we do that?”
She likened the situation to a trotro conductor (mate) and his driver, and asked whether a mate can ask his master to stop driving for him to take over.
She added that the NPP did many things wrong and did not listen to citizens complaints.
“Many things caused us to lose the elections in 2024, it is not one individual. It is not Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that did anything,”
“We were making Ghanaians annoyed, because when they talked, we did not listen,” she stressed.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its flag bearer election on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
