Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John Kapi, has revealed that monitoring teams have uncovered several cases of malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, 14 arrests have been made so far, with three of the suspects already convicted and sentenced.
Speaking to the media on Friday, September 5, Mr. Kapi gave a breakdown of the cases.

“Two persons were arrested for impersonation at Ghana College, Kasoa. They were arraigned before court and have been sentenced to six months imprisonment each, while their accomplice was sentenced to eight months imprisonment,” he disclosed.
He added “The proprietor of Christian IPS, Kukurantumi as well as one of his invigilators have been arrested for creating a Whatsapp group on which they shared snapshots of questions and solutions. They have been handed over to the police for further investigations.”
He also revealed that one Ebenezer Finn was arrested for impersonation at St. Vincent College, Abura Dunkwa, and has since been arraigned before court.
“Mr. Kodwa Desmond was arrested at Abbott College Asante Bekwai. He was handed over to the police and subsequently arraigned before court. He has been remanded into police custody for 2 weeks,” he added.
Mr. Kapi further noted that other arrests include students and impersonators from Yeji Senior High School, Atwima Kwanwoma Presbyterian SHS, Abbott College in Asante Bekwai, Atwima Kwanwoma Presbyterian SHS, and Sefa Bonsu Royal School.
However, one student from Yeji Senior High School managed to escape before he could be apprehended.
He stressed that more arrests and convictions are expected as investigations progress, adding that results from the affected schools will be subjected to thorough scrutiny.
This development comes after WAEC issued a stern warning against examination malpractice before the start of the WASSCE on August 4, 2025. The examination is expected to conclude by September 19.
