Vice President is doing impactful things, not performative things – Spokesperson to the Vice President

Vice President announces plans to bring 1500-2000 specialists to help strengthen healthcare delivery in Ghana

Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President, Maame Ama Pratt, has dismissed claims that Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is not doing enough in office, insisting that her focus has been on results and impact rather than public performance.

According to her, the Vice President has been given oversight responsibilities for some major ministries and is paying visits to them to address major concerns of these ministries.

Speaking on Metro TV on January 19, Maame Ama Pratt said, “Because her position is so novel, there are expectations of her that there will never be of any other Vice President or any other person in that position.”

She explained that while there may be pressure to be performative, the Vice President has deliberately chosen a different approach.

“There’s the temptation to be performative with the role and you can realize that she’s not doing that. She’s going for impact. It’s those things that will be meaningful, impactful, those are the things she’s doing,” she stated.

Maame Ama Pratt pointed to the Vice President’s recent engagements across key government ministries as evidence of this impact-driven approach, noting that the visits are focused on problem-solving rather than optics.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang has visited the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Transport so far in January 2026.

“Engaging and finding prudent means of support,” Ama Pratt said describing the purpose of the Vice President’s engagements.

“She will try to visit all the ministries that we have and she keeps saying that, ‘relax, if it hasn’t gotten to your turn, it will get to your turn.’”

Citing the recent visit to the transport sector, the spokesperson noted that the Vice President went beyond meetings by engaging directly with operational agencies.

In that visit, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang moved from the Ministry of Transport to Metro Mass Transit Limited to GAPTE (Aayalolo).

“To show firsthand that government is committed to an all hands on deck approach,” explained Ama Pratt.

Maame Ama Pratt also cautioned the public against misinformation, particularly claims circulating on social media suggesting that the Vice President had issued sharp responses to critics calling for more action.

Dismissing the reports, she said, “I’m not sure about that quote. No. These days they do it so well, they will take a credible news outlet and post it on it. We have to be careful.”
